Manitoba Horses, Horses, Horses

Manitoba Horses, Horses, Horses

Horses, horses, horses...

Visiting friends at their cabin north of Brandon, Manitoba; on the drive in we saw a heard of about 20 horses.  All just just hanging out in a field by the road.  That section was beaten down from their trampling so was a likely a little more bug friendly.  Meaning fewer bugs bugging the beasts.

A very friendly curious lot by and large.  I got at least a dozen selfies with various.

Here are just a few …

Mountain Horses Near Cochrane, Alberta

Mountain Horses Near Cochrane, Alberta

Marty and Horses

Lots of driving the first few days of June to get home.  I thought I might have a bit of time to continue to do some blog posts but lo and behold almost two weeks have passed!  Life catches up to one sometimes.

The photos of horses near the mountains in these are taken around one of my favourite spots near Cochrane, Alberta.  There are a number of ranches where, over the years, I would often approach groups of horses.  I’m usually on the roadside of the fence and a small group might come from some few hundred metres away.  Curious beasts.  And then I’d have two or three fighting to get selfies with me.  This trip, most of the groups that I passed were some distance away except for the two that you see.

The one with the mountains in the distance walked to a point where he seemed to be posing specifically for the shot.

Grandchildren and Mountain Horses

Was great being able to take the kids up to the mountain ranch to see and wander about with the horses, lamas and donkeys.  They had a blast and as always I had my camera with me. And my two favourite subjects: people and horses.  Then I’m a kid in a candy store.  You can see here how gentle the horses are with these two.

This bunch were so friendly and careful with the kids - was so great.  Yvonne and the grandchildren went off to the barns to see the goats and pig when I wasn’t looking (rather involved in taking horse selfies) but I got to shoot them coming back up the hill.

Such a beautiful space. I’ll be posting the ‘horse selfies’ on my Instagram: @faffyrd

Enjoy

Horse Ranch Near Pritchard, British Columbia

Horse Ranch Near Pritchard, British Columbia

Horses in the mountains

Yesterday Yvonne and I drove up to Chase, BC to visit her son and family.  We then took her two grandkids up to a friends ranch.  In the mountains above Pritchard.   Great photo op.

I got some amazing photos of the grandchildren, a bunch of horse selfies and some horse photos (just horses) which you can see here.  Been up here twice before over the last 8 years or so.  First time was New Year’s Eve 2013/14.  Very wintery.  Got some great Christmas cards from that shoot.  Horses in the snow.

These horses are so friendly.  Grandson is three years old wandering around with the horses and no worries.  So nice that the kids can feel comfortable around these big animals.  Lots of horse kisses.

The two donkeys were off in another field when we arrived.  When we were walking amongst the horses they didn’t want to be left out so came to visit.  Curious animals.  They wouldn’t get as close as the horses but did hang around for photos.

I’ll do separate posts: horses first, then kids and kids with horses.

Fall Fun Taking Horse Photos

In the last two years, since moving to Ontario, I haven’t been taking as many equine photos. There are plenty of horses in the areas that I roam but life and routines changed. In Alberta, I had areas that I’d go knowing I would get some great shots of curious and friendly horses.

Yesterday we had scheduled to visit a friend that raises Rocky Mountain horses. She had to go out on an emergency but told us that it was quite fine to show up and shoot some horse photos. She knows that I’m comfortable with them, and they with me, so has no problem me going into the field and walk about. A few of the photos are below. The little one would hardly leave me alone. Loved having his hips massaged. Mama is a grey and you can start to see the colt losing some of his colour.

Lots of selfies which I’ll post separately on Instagram. @faffyrd or search my full name.
