Alberta Rodeo Circuit
We lived in Alberta for several years. There, I started taking more photos of horses. Alberta is real cowboy country. The public school system, in rural areas, actually teach these skills. Calf roping etc. Because they get used in ‘real’ life. On the ranch.
I think the first rodeo I photographed was in Millarville, Alberta. Got some great photos at that one over the years. Couple of others were the Dog Pound Rodeo and Water Valley.
If you are a photographer or just like rodeos, here is a great website listing the rodeo circuit.
Canadian Pro Rodeo Association
I get asked if I’ve ever worked or photographed the Calgary Stampede. My is no, as it is way too busy. Thus, it is very difficult to get up close. The smaller rodeos are better, like Dog Pound, near Calgary or Swift Current. (‘Speedy Creek’ to the locals) in Saskatchewan. As a result these are way more fun to shoot.
I’ve got hundreds of photos but I’ve included only a few here.
Two Separate Websites
I’ll post some from individual rodeos as I go along. I’ve reworked my websites as there was confusion and crossover. This website is all about horses.
So, I’ve keep my other at photo-photo.com all about people. Portraits, etc.
