Grandchildren and Horses

Grandchildren and Mountain Horses

Was great being able to take the kids up to the mountain ranch to see and wander about with the horses, lamas and donkeys.  They had a blast and as always I had my camera with me. And my two favourite subjects: people and horses.  Then I’m a kid in a candy store.  You can see here how gentle the horses are with these two.

This bunch were so friendly and careful with the kids - was so great.  Yvonne and the grandchildren went off to the barns to see the goats and pig when I wasn’t looking (rather involved in taking horse selfies) but I got to shoot them coming back up the hill.

Such a beautiful space. I’ll be posting the ‘horse selfies’ on my Instagram: @faffyrd

Enjoy

Horse Ranch Near Pritchard, British Columbia

Horse Ranch Near Pritchard, British Columbia

Horses in the mountains

Yesterday Yvonne and I drove up to Chase, BC to visit her son and family.  We then took her two grandkids up to a friends ranch.  In the mountains above Pritchard.   Great photo op.

I got some amazing photos of the grandchildren, a bunch of horse selfies and some horse photos (just horses) which you can see here.  Been up here twice before over the last 8 years or so.  First time was New Year’s Eve 2013/14.  Very wintery.  Got some great Christmas cards from that shoot.  Horses in the snow.

These horses are so friendly.  Grandson is three years old wandering around with the horses and no worries.  So nice that the kids can feel comfortable around these big animals.  Lots of horse kisses.

The two donkeys were off in another field when we arrived.  When we were walking amongst the horses they didn’t want to be left out so came to visit.  Curious animals.  They wouldn’t get as close as the horses but did hang around for photos.

I’ll do separate posts: horses first, then kids and kids with horses.

Kids and Grandkids – Saturday in Armstrong, BC

Kids and Grandkids – Saturday in Armstrong, BC

Saturday Family Night - Armstrong BC

Yvonne’s son, Paul, his wife Kelsey and their children drove down for the afternoon evening.  With their cousins here, it made for a great evening.  Wonderful children - lots of hugs. Pia got her hair cut by Yvonne.  I don’t know who enjoyed the process more.  Great chats I had with Kelsey.  I’d forgotten how my I liked these folks.  Was a real treat seeing them.

What sweet kids.

Most of these particular photos are with my iPhone.  Amazing camera in this beast.  I bought it largely for the camera and I’m not disappointed.  The photo of Paul intently listening to someone was not a close up.  It was part of another photo but the detail and balanced light is wonderful.  I haven’t even really explored what this thing can do.

Yvonne was so happy hanging with her grandkids.

Armstrong BC – Thomas Hayes Trail & BX Falls Vernon

Armstrong BC – Thomas Hayes Trail & BX Falls Vernon

Thomas Hayes Trail - Armstrong

Having an amazing time in Armstrong.  Always amazing when we get to go hiking/walking in the woods. Yesterday and today.  Spent the weekend with Marianne (Yvonne’s sister), Marianne’s son Shayne, and his wife Shannon, Shayne’s daughter Cassidy, and Marianne’s other son Evan.   And the puppy Maya.  You can see the bunch of us hiking about in Armstrong on Saturday.  Started of kinda cool but by the time we were half way through the hike pretty much all coats were wrapped around hips.  I was very happy I’d worn shorts

You can see the bunch of us over my bald head on one of the photos.   And a couple through the trees of Yvonne.  I caught a few of her with my long lens coming through the trees.  I could look at her all day.

BX Falls Vernon

Today Marianne took us a little way into the hills east of Vernon.  Was a rainy today so felt like we were in the rainforest in the Vancouver area.  Lots of steps to get to the bottom of the waterfall.  Rainy day.

Marianne drove us up to Silver Star (mountain Ski place above Vernon) to see the view but the fog had set in by the time we got there so couldn’t see a thing. Next time.

Elbow Falls, Burgers, Beer and Cigars

Elbow Falls, Burgers, Beer and Cigars

Hanging out at Elbow Falls

Great day hanging out with Yvonne’s son Spencer.  He took us out for a drive to Elbow Falls, one of our favourite spots in the area.

Water was pretty low.  Melt from the mountains hasn’t really gotten going yet.  The whole area of the river is still stones and gravel from the 2013 flooding.  Might take decades or longer for vegetation to build up to the river’s edge again.  Plenty of trails from here.  Not that we did any serious hiking.  If you want to go up the highway further you have to wait a few days.  On the 15th they open the gate and you can get through to Forgetmenot Pond - that whole strip is absolutely gorgeous.  There were some cyclists going up and down - it’s brutal going up, we’ve walked it.

Then back to his place for burgers and beer.  And cigars.
