Headshot Poses for Females

Practice, practice, practice if you want to get some great headshot poses.  Stand in front of the mirror and try different looks.  Some people will feel very uncomfortable doing this. Not everyone.  But.  If you are a bit uncomfortable looking at yourself and feeling silly the only trick to overcome this is to just keep doing it.

If you are going to want to feel comfortable in front of a camera... Or if going to auditions you want to make a good impression, you don't want to come across embarrassed.  Or fidgety.  You want to be very calm.  Relaxed.  'This is old hat.'  And practice will fix that.  Have a look online at headshot poses for females.  Take some and see if they work for you.

Female Headshot Poses

The video above is of an opera singer friend of mine.  She practiced.

A good photographer can help you, but the more you know what you are doing, the more the confidence will show through in the photos. I see many models with exactly the same look on their face for every image they put online or in their portfolio.  When you are practicing and trying to figure out how to pose for a headshot, you'll find some looks work and some don't.  Try different emotions.  Not always with the smile.  Try anger, sad, silly and thoughtful.

Once you have some poses down, you need to find a photographer that you are comfortable with.  Someone that can bring out the best in you while shooting.  Not everyone is on the same wavelength.  Not everyone 'clicks' with everyone else.  Sometimes a phone call is enough.  Or reading some testimonials.  But sometimes, it's better to meet for a coffee.  References can always be useful as well.

Professional Headshot Poses

So, bottom line, if you want to get some good professional headshots, go into the session with a professional attitude.  Figure out for yourself what your 'job' is as a model or actor or business woman or man.  In this situation of getting a good photo.  Taking a little time in front of the mirror and eventually being more comfortable in front of the camera, will be well worth the time.
